DoubleTree by Hilton Melaka - Makan Kitchen

27/02/2022 I paid RM56 for buffet breakfast walk in price. Normally buffet price for Mid size hotel is around RM30. Yes, even though they are 5 stars hotel, nothing super special like lobster or sashimi. Come on, RM 56 can not expect those things right, at at least at breakfast session. However, they serve basic foods like others, but some of the basic foods were done well. Their scrabbled eggs and mash potato is even better than most of the restaurants out there. Knowing that these are cheap food and will get full easily, I keep refill them. Ayam rempah was fried on the spot, delicious. Smoke duck is a hidden gem at the corner. Cappucino is good, and plenty of desserts. Roti bakar is quite unique. Some dishes are just so so, heated frozen food like assorted pau, roti canai, etc. Do look for the food where they cook on the spot, their chef are well trained and foods are well prepared. I would say their western food is better than local food. Ambience was great, can view Melaka city through big window/ glass wall. Servants are well trained and friendly. Toilets are clean. Someday, when you find yourself look for more than just filling your stomach, can come try. They did a bit better in many aspect. Overall better experience than normally buffet restaurant.

Good atmosphere. Huge and spacious restaurant. The place has breathtaking view of the Melaka town as it is located at the 12th Floor of Double Tree Hilton Melaka. The coffee here is not bad. Food spread is good but the taste is kinda average. Nevertheless, service is good and staffs are friendly. Overall not bad. ⭐

Celebrating Ramadan, my reservation is personalized attentively by having my family name. The staff is attentive and passionate. The live performance enhanced our experience. Fish, lamb, clams, chicken, prawns and raw octopus for protein. After a long day of not eating the place looks too small and as you make your way through the buffet you get scared you wont get a chance to taste everything. After 2 hours I have tasted the rich culture through this culinary experience, for an outsider the buffet could have used wasabi or horse radish, boiled eggs and more salad greens.

Paid RM56 per person for breakfast buffet, booked online. Service was superb! Everywhere you'll be greeted with a smile. Atmosphere was great too, got view of Melaka city, table setting was nice Taste wise, the plain croissant is to die for. Kuey teow with clear sup was good too. Omelette is a tad bland for me (I like salty food). Fruit juices were good. Choices were plenty, there's western food, indian, chinese and Malay. Though the sambal nasi lemak could use a bit more sugar, it tasted strong of dried shrimps.

The buffet was great, with many selections and a variety of dishes. I highly recommend the Sup Utara – it’s superb. Cheers to the chef! The hostess, Ms. Rasyqah, was very nice, helpful, and entertaining. Kudos to the service as well.

Makan Kitchen offers a wide variety of local cuisines at different buffet counters located across the restaurant. As a tourist to Malaysia, it offered a great way to sample food from the various main ethnic groups in one morning (or two). I am told the spiciness of some dishes has been muted out of consideration for foreign tastes and all dishes exclude pork as this is a halal restaurant. I found the Makan restaurant to be a great "safe" way to sample a wide variety of colourful tasty local dishes. What a great tourism initiative. BTW, the hotel is brand new and its facilities, top class.

For the Lunar Hawker dinner buffet at RM98 (10% discount if booked online), it's quite worth the money paid. Around RM46 for kids or senior citizens, this dinner buffet surpassed our expectations. Especially if it is a DoubleTree Hilton buffet. Only available for Fridays and Saturdays till 11th February 2023. And we were lucky to get this buffet on the 1st day of Chinese New Year (Sunday). The most popular stations are the seafood Chinese stall (crab, lala and clams), the charcoal grilled fish (ikan bakar arang) station (aim for the cod and jenahak fish as they finish fast) and of course the dessert station. Do try the mamak chicken or mutton soup, it's out of this World. Rich and flavourful, it's a must try. You can spend the full buffet timing, 6:30pm till 10:00pm.. So make full use of the timing. Food here is pleasantly delicious and fresh. The noodles station provides an extra soup option for you, try to avoid the Nyonya laksa soup. Staff are attentive as well and the place has an awesome ambiance. See the Melaka city night life as you dine. Highly recommend to try this dinner buffet before 11th February 2023.
